Diane Durrett is a Renaissance woman. She wears many hats and excels in each area she tackles whether it’s singing, songwriting, producing, engineering, or live performance. A resilient Independent Artist, she has honed her craft and has a distinctive voice that touches her listeners. But above all, she is a consummate artist who can communicate anything she chooses with her songs. As you will hear in this album, she has way of taking any topic and finding the positive aspect of it.

Sweet Georgia Blues (song)
Track notes written by Dr. Lyn Schenbeck

Georgia is much more than just a place. It’s a feeling, a painting, a song, a sensual experience. Only in Georgia can the blues be sweet! Diane Durrett’s soulful rendering of “Sweet Georgia Blues” is the essence of her life in Georgia with every note she sings.
Just as Gospel music itself signifies Georgia, singer Adam Mcknight and Diane begin with a soulful hum that blends with co-writer Yoel B’nai Yehuda on the Hammond B3 organ. Diane’s vocals immediately follow delivering an intimate portrait of the sounds of the south. Hoot owls and squeaky front porch swings; she heard Gospel on the radio and saw the “seagulls callin’ me back to Sapelo,” an island still pure in its natural habitat, another reason Georgia is a haven.
Not only does she long for the countryside and the islands, but Atlanta “buzzin like a bee” inspires memories of dancing with Junebug “down on Peachtree street.” Every soulful phrase of “Sweet Georgia Blues” brings us closer to a heavenly picture of what it’s like to grow up in Georgia.
Even the wonderful, sensual improv of Eddie 9 Volt on guitar, the vintage riffs of Chad Mason on the Wurlitzer, the deep groove of the drums by Melissa Junebug and bass by Gregg Shapiro carry us further into the beauty and inspiration of life in the south.
Close your eyes as you listen to this beautiful painting of the love Diane has for her childhood, faith, and music. You will be transported to Georgia and the south.

Lyrics

Hear of the hum of the crickets in July

The hoot owls callin in the summer sky

Me and you swingin on that squeaky old swing

Underneath the pines oh that’s what I’m missin

Got those sweet Georgia blues

Sweet Georgia blues

Sunday gospel on the radio

Seagulls callin me back to Sapelo

ATL buzzin like a bee

Oh you and me dancing down on Peachtree Street

Got those sweet Georgia blues

Sweet Georgia blues

Sweet Georgia blues

Oh baby I know you feel it too

Got those sweet Georgia blues

Sweet Georgia blues

Sweet Georgia blues

I’ve got those sweet Georgia blues

Sweet Georgia Blues

Nobody like you

Giving all my love to you

Sweet Sweet Sweet Georgia blues I’ve got those sweet Georgia blues
