Look for Me
Track notes written by Dr. Lyn Schenbeck
Life is a journey. We are born, grow up, grow older, and then travel to the other side. What’s on that side? Who’s on that side? In life, it’s important to have relatives or friends who will look out for you. When you transition, you want to know that there are spirits who will find and help you. That is the essence of “Look for Me.” If it tugs at your heart, it’s because so many of us know grief and the feeling of loss.
Diane shared, “My Mom passed when I was a young adult. I’ve had a long time to think about when I will get to see her again. I lost several friends back to back and had just returned from my friend Jimbeau Hinson’s memorial, when I began thinking about loss. I wanted to write about the hope of having our loved ones waiting on the other side.
When I lived in Nashville Jimbeau mentored me as a songwriter. He said a good song, has a tickle, a tug or a tear and if you have all three then you’ve got a great song. He had a mischievous sense of humor as well so while I was working on the second verse, I wondered what he would have said, I laughed when this cheeky analogy came to my mind, If I’m at the goal post of life Throw Me a Hail Mary!”
We all complete the journey eventually. Not only do we want those loved ones who have come before to look for us, but we will also search for them.
The Instrumentation represents many of the thoughts we have about loss. Joey Sommerville’s trumpet is a reflection of “Amazing Grace,” the song that precedes “Look for Me.” It ties those songs together because it is through grace that we heal from suffering.

Junebug’s drums, and Fugi Fugimoto’s bass under the entire song represent faith and unwavering help on the journey. Dominik Gryzbon’s power chords on guitar contribute to the foundation of the song. Yoel B’nai Yehuda’s melodic underpinning of the Gospel tradition on the Hammond B3 unifies the spirituality of the song.
Ending on a positive note, Diane sings, “When you see me in the light, you’ll be the first one I’ll find. It will be a joyous moment when we cross over to the other side and get to see our loved ones. Love will guide us through.”

Lyrics

Look For Me

Let me know everythings alright beyond the light

Look for me

Come back and tell me what you see on the other side

When it comes my time to go

I wanna know would you look for me

Look for me

I’ll be the one gettin set free

Look for me

Will ya throw me a Hail Mary

If I’m at the goal post of life

Might need a little help from the other side

Look for me

When it comes my time to go I wanna know would you look for me

Look For Me

Let me know you’re doing just fine a little down the line

Look for me

If I get stuck in the tunnel of time that will be your sign

I don’t wanna be late I got a lot at stake

Would you Look for me

Look For Me

Let me know everythings alright beyond the light

Look for me

Let me know what you see from the other side

When it comes my time to go

I wanna know would you look for me

When you see me in the light

You’ll be the first one I’ll find

Look for me
